The mission of the Prairieville Fire Department is to provide to the best of its ability high quality fire suppression, prevention, education, rescue and emergency medical services. We will accomplish this goal by educating our children on the dangers or fire and how to escape if one occurs. We will plan for emergencies in our schools, churches and business to insure we are able to better manage any emergency. We shall provide our personnel with the most up to date training and insure each is competent to perform any task assigned. Through the utilization and application of the most advanced techniques and equipment available to us we shall provide these services without hesitation to all citizens and shall not discriminate against any person or group for any reason. It is our goal that the residents, traveling public and business owners in the Prairieville area have a fire department that is Second To None.
Prairieville has hired its first six Full-Time Firefighters. This addition will provide two Full-Time Firefighters and Three Contract Firefighters on duty a shift. Also supported by the countless efforts from the volunteers. With the addition of the full time firefighters, supplemented by the contract firefighters, will help to relieve some of the work load from the volunteers. The volunteers of Prairieville will continue to play a vital role in continuing the service that the Prairieville Fire Department is committed to serving our community. Look for more changes to come in the future.
In its continuing efforts to ensure its growing fire district
is properly protected, the Prairieville Fire Department (PFD)
has hired six full-time firefighters. The move
comes just a few months after the department's first full-time
Fire Chief, Mark Stewart, took over. The full-time firefighters
will supplement the contract and volunteer firefighters already
serving the area. They will work rotating shifts to enable the
PFD to have five paid firefighters on duty around the clock.
Not only will this increase the efficiency of the non-emergency
tasks performed by the department, such as hydrant tests, fire
prevention, public education, etc., but it will improve response
times to emergency calls and guarantee that a truck will be on
scene in the shortest time possible. The paid firefighters will
still rely on the many trained volunteer firefighters who have
diligently responded to structure fires, brush fires, medical
calls and vehicle accidents over the years. The daily presence
of professional firefighters will also expedite the process of
training new volunteers to be first responders.
The addition of a paid force is part of the master plan of improving
the district to respond to the rapid growth in the area and to
maintain and improve our insurance ratings. The improvements
are made possible by the tax mil and the creation of Fire District
3, which were both overwhelmingly approved by Prairieville voters.
Also imminent is the purchase of a ladder truck, made increasingly
necessary by the prevalence of new two-story homes and apartment
buildings in the area. The PFD also plans to purchase two new
fire engines and to build a central station so that response
time and effectiveness is equal to all corners of the District.
The need for these improvements continues to be reinforced by
the ever-growing number of calls, which currently stands at approximately150
a month. The Department has also taken steps to ensure it is
prepared for this year's hurricane season and stands ready to
serve you.
